Face Time: 5 Under-the-Radar Treatments for a Total Tune-Up

Have you found yourself stressing over the way you look on Zoom? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone! Now that so many of our meetings and social gatherings take place on camera, we’re more intimate than ever with every nook and cranny of our faces. If you feel like yours could use a little tune-up but you’re unsure of where to start (or what your options are beyond basic Smoothing Serum—aka Botox), we’re here to help. Here are five minor treatments that can have a major impact on the way you look and feel about yourself—in the mirror, on camera, and IRL.

1. Necklace Line Removal

It seems like we’re always hunched over a screen, whether it be a laptop or phone, and all that looking down means one thing for the delicate skin of our necks: deeper lines. Though age, lifestyle, and environmental factors can contribute to their severity, the biggest factor here is genetics. “My youngest patient for necklace line removal was 23,” says Jordan. “Her grandmother and mother both had deep necklines and she wanted to be proactive to prevent her neck from becoming creased as well.” Jordan uses a variety of products for necklace lines depending on her clients’ needs, including Belotero, Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Versa. Results typically last from 8-18 months and are best preserved with sunscreen and skincare products that contain peptides and bio-stimulatory ingredients.

A Word from Jordan: “Necklace line removal is usually for clients who have taken good care of their faces but neglected their neck and now regret it. There are also many young people who foresee what our tech-obsessed culture is doing to our necks (‘tech neck,’ anyone?). So be proactive as you care for your neck and remember to treat it as an extension of your face!”

2. Lip Frame Definition

This is an effective solution for those who are looking to sharpen their lip line without the added volume of a filler. Though fillers can be helpful in shaping the lips, it’s good to know that you have other options! During a lip frame definition procedure, small threads are placed directly along the vermillion border, which is the thin line that frames everyone’s lips. Over the course of 4-6 weeks, new collagen forms around the threads and gives the lips the extra support they need to maintain beautiful definition. Jordan often uses a combined approach while defining lips and may recommend a filler or Smoothing Serum depending on your desired look. “Adding fillers to the mix helps to hydrate, reshape, and volumize the lips,” explains Jordan, “while Smoothing Serum can expose more of the lip (as seen in a Lip Flip), without the added volume of a filler.”

A Word from Jordan: “The lips are the cherry of the face. Symmetrical luscious lips can grab the attention of any room and have the power to beautify every face. Simply waking up to full, defined lips in the mirror is one of the most gratifying things one can do for themselves.”

3. Temporal Rejuvenation

When we think about signs of aging, our temples might not immediate come to mind—but it turns out that they play a major role in maintaining a youthful appearance. “Like the neck, temples typically show up for someone who has taken great care of their face but could use an overall tune-up,” says Jordan. “When we age, we lose volume in our face—hollowed out temples can be particularly noticeable. Once they are treated, the face goes from looking worn-out to plump and healthy again.” As an added bonus, temporal rejuvenation automatically gives clients a brow lift, as the temporal fossa sits lateral to the brow bone. These neighbors lift and support one another once the area is treated with durable filler, such as Voluma, Radiesse, Restylane Lyft, or Sculptra. And because the temples are an immobile area of the face, results can last anywhere from 18 months to two years.

A Word from Jordan: “This treatment tends to attract older clients because that’s when hollow temples become noticeable but don’t write it off if you’re not there yet. I’ve also given younger clients (including myself) a similar treatment to lift the brows and make a smooth transition from the superior lateral cheekbone to the temple.”

4. Earlobe Correction

Have your piercings stretched over time? Do you notice your earlobes sagging? A simple earlobe correction can make all the difference. With the help of a robust filler like Voluma, Restylane Lyft, or Radiesse (Jordan’s favorite for this treatment), it’s possible to restore the strength of your lobes so you can proudly rock dangly earrings once more! Earlobe corrections are one of the minor tweaks that can give your face a lifted look, plus results can last several years. For patients who take gentle and preventative measures following an earlobe correction, results can actually last a lifetime.

A Word from Jordan: “I always instruct my clients to refrain from sleeping in their earrings because that’s when most of the trauma to our lobes occurs. Taking breaks from wearing heavy earrings and removing them before bedtime can help maintain the results of an earlobe correction for years to come.”

5. Nose Tip Lift

Do you have a drooping or slanted nasal tip? Maybe you want to change the shape of your nose but you’re not ready for a non-surgical nose job or full-blown rhinoplasty yet. If this sounds familiar, a nose tip lift can help you re-shape your nose without making a major (or permanent) commitment. During this treatment, Smoothing Serum (Botox) is injected into the lower tip of the nose, where a depressor muscle works to pull down the nasal tip. When this muscle is treated, it subtly lifts the tip of the nose so that it no longer droops downwards. Lifting the tip of the nose is a small but noticeable enhancement that improves the appearance of the entire face because it’s essentially the centerpiece.

A Word from Jordan: “I have repaired several noses that have undergone failed plastic surgery or suffered breaks from sports accidents and even domestic abuse. Many of my clients are born with asymmetry, bumps, humps, and irregularities, but they are too afraid to go under the knife—and I don’t blame them. This procedure is suitable for those who don’t want to make major changes yet, or who already have the symmetry they desire but want to add a bit of definition to enhance their profile view.”
